About Harpers Ferry KOA

Jefferson County, West Virginia, Historic Harpers Ferry and the Harpers Ferry KOA literally explode with Civil War history.

The campground was the site of the Sheraton Heights Battle in which Colonel Miles fired two Union artillery guns at Stonewall Jackson on September 13, 1862. On site today are authentic Civil War trenches and a Civil War Re-enactors Museum. Rumors of haunting by Union and Confederate soldiers continue to persist to this day. Although these rumors are unconfirmed, campers near the trench may become believers.

More than three decades ago, the Harpers Ferry campground began as the Civil War Showcase Museum hosting Civil War exhibits and living history activities. The property was converted into a KOA campground and later became the Holiday Travel Park and then the Harpers Ferry Campsites. The area is still popular for West Virginia tourist attractions.

In February 1996, Recreational Adventures Co. purchased the campground and it again became a KOA property. Since purchasing the campground, RAC has followed an aggressive plan of capital improvements for the property. New log cabins and a bunkhouse were built. The indoor recreational facilities have been upgraded. The shower house was recently renovated and sites have been improved. Campground developments continue as new cabins are being constructed this winter. Camping in West Virginia is a combination of history and adventure!

We're 'Thinking Green'!

If there's one thing that we know about at the Harpers Ferry KOA, it's being green. After all, we're surrounded by beautiful trees, lush grasses and some of the most historic areas West Virginia has to offer.

We're dedicated to keeping our KOA as beautiful as it can be. That's why we use sturdy, yet biodegradable paper and plastics in our food service areas, and offer conveniently located recycling bins for our guests' use. In 2009, we've even taken it one step further, installing efficiency lighting throughout our kampground.

By doing our part to keep our environment clean, the Harpers Ferry KOA will continue to be a beautiful adventure for you and your family for generations to come.
